Tesla, widely known for its electric cars, batteries, and solar panels, is planning to create a unique Supercharger station in Los Angeles. This new venture will include an all-night diner and a drive-in movie theater.
Tesla has obtained permission to build this 1950s-themed facility, which will feature a 24-hour Supercharger station with 32 charging stalls. Visitors can enjoy food and movie clips from famous films while they wait for their electric vehicles to charge. There’s even an open rooftop for those who prefer to relax and take in the view.
Elon Musk first shared the idea for this distinctive Supercharger station in April 2021, expressing hopes for a diner and movie clips to be included. Although initially planned for Santa Monica, the site will actually be located at 7001 W. Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood.
The reason for showing short movie clips instead of full-length films is that Tesla’s Superchargers can add several hundred miles of range in just 15 minutes, meaning most people won’t be waiting too long.
Tesla submitted the project application in November 2022 and received the green light from the City of Los Angeles last month. The exact timeline for the start and completion of construction remains unclear, but work is expected to commence soon now that permission has been granted.
This West Hollywood Supercharger station, with its unusual design, is part of Tesla’s broader strategy to expand its global Supercharger network, making it easier for Tesla and other electric vehicle owners to access fast-charging facilities. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, there are nearly 1,900 Tesla Supercharger stations in the U.S., with just over 20,000 charging ports.
If this themed Supercharger site proves popular, it may inspire Tesla to create more locations that offer additional amenities, enhancing the charging experience beyond just recharging cars and grabbing refreshments.
