Tesla’s Cybertruck has encountered an issue that’s reportedly led the automaker to pause deliveries of the new pickup for about a week while they fix the problem. Several posts on online forums have highlighted an issue with the Cybertruck’s large windshield wiper, specifically the motor that powers it.
One post on the Cybertruck Owners Forum mentioned that deliveries have been stopped for about a week due to a newly discovered safety problem with the windshield wiper motor. Responses to the post varied, with some new customers also stating that their Cybertruck deliveries would be delayed by a week without Tesla providing an explanation. Some owners said their windshield wipers were functioning properly, while others reported various problems.
For instance, a new owner in Florida shared that after picking up their Cybertruck last week, the wiper failed when it started raining on the way home. They had to sit in a Dunkin’ Donuts for three and a half hours and call Tesla roadside assistance because they couldn’t see. To get the vehicle to a safe spot, they had to open the window and stick their head outside.
Another person mentioned that the windshield wiper hasn’t worked since they purchased the vehicle. They spent several weeks waiting for Tesla to get the part and now have a service appointment. The assumption is they will replace the motor, though Tesla hasn’t specified it.
Tesla has not yet commented publicly on the apparent windshield wiper issue or announced any kind of recall.
This isn’t the first problem with Tesla’s fully electric Cybertruck since its first deliveries in December 2023. In April, production was temporarily halted to address an issue with the cover on the accelerator pedal, which could come loose and jam the pedal fully down, causing the pickup to accelerate. Tesla recalled nearly 4,000 Cybertrucks to fix this problem.
