There’s finally another choice in the electric SUV market. Lucid, known for the Lucid Air with the longest range among electric cars, is now expanding its lineup with a larger option called the Lucid Gravity. This vehicle maintains a design similar to the Air but offers more space inside and impressive performance.
The Lucid Gravity could become a top pick among luxury electric SUVs. If you’re interested in more details, here’s everything you need to know.
If you’re familiar with the Lucid Air, the design of the Lucid Gravity will seem familiar. The car is sleek and stylish, signaling its status as a premium vehicle without being overly unique in appearance. At the front, the Gravity features two slim headlights and a sweeping hood. The side profile slopes gently toward the back, where you’ll find a rear light bar. Many color options include a two-tone design, which some people might love while others may not.
In many respects, the Gravity appears as a taller version of the Air, which isn’t a negative. Although it’s not revolutionary in design, it still looks quite appealing.
The interior of the Lucid Gravity is equally luxurious. It features stitched leather, often seen in a saddle brown color. Like the Lucid Air, there are two displays upfront—a super-wide display for lights, wipers, instrument monitoring, and mapping, and a secondary display for climate controls, driving modes, and other settings. This dual-display setup is relatively unique to Lucid vehicles and is intuitive and user-friendly.
Additionally, the Gravity offers more space than the Air, enough to include three rows of seats. Between the front seats, there’s a center console for storage, and fold-out tables are available for the second-row passengers.
The Lucid Air came in several different models, and it’s likely that Gravity will follow suit with multiple trim levels. While Lucid hasn’t announced the exact trims for Gravity, we can speculate based on the Air’s options, which included Pure, Touring, Grand Touring, Dream Edition, and Sapphire packages. It’s unlikely that all trims will be available at launch, similar to how Lucid rolled out the Air.
One of the key features of the Lucid Air is its outstanding range, and the Lucid Gravity continues this trend. According to Lucid, the Gravity will boast a range of over 440 miles. While this figure likely applies to the highest-range models, even the base model is expected to outperform most other electric cars. We’ll have to wait and see the exact details.
The charging speed is also impressive. Lucid states that the Gravity can gain up to 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes when using a 350-kilowatt charging station, making it one of the fastest-charging vehicles available and capable of taking full advantage of high-speed charging stations.
Beyond range, the Lucid Gravity is quite fast. It comes with dual electric motors and standard all-wheel drive. While specific performance figures haven’t been revealed, it’s expected that the Gravity will deliver performance similar to the Lucid Air, offering about 480 horsepower in the base Pure model, 620 horsepower in the Touring trim, and 1,050 horsepower in the Grand Touring trim.
Performance in real-world conditions will reveal more, but if the Gravity is similar to the Air, it might become one of the fastest electric cars. Currently, the Lucid Air Dream Edition is only behind the Tesla Model S Plaid in terms of speed among production cars.
However, don’t expect the Lucid Gravity to be an affordable electric SUV. The Lucid Air starts at $74,900, and the Gravity will be priced similarly. Lucid has mentioned a starting price under $80,000, but it won’t be much less than that. Higher-end models will, of course, cost more, much like the Lucid Air Sapphire edition, which started around $249,000. It’s likely a similarly priced version of the Gravity will eventually be offered.
So when can you get your hands on the Lucid Gravity? Unfortunately, you’ll need to wait a bit longer. Lucid has announced that the Gravity will be available starting in late 2024. Although you can order it now, it will still be some time before you actually receive the vehicle.
