A Glimpse at the Exclusive Limited Edition: Only 2,000 Matte Black F-150 Lightnings by Ford

The F-150 Lightning has been around for a bit now, and judging by Ford’s reported sales growth and the number of these trucks I see daily, it’s clear people are convinced it’s worth buying. So what’s next? It’s time for more trim options! Introducing the new, limited-edition F-150 Lightning Platinum Black.

As you might guess, the Platinum Black is built on the high-end Platinum trim level of the Lightning. From there, it gets a range of exclusive cosmetic tweaks to make sure it stands out. Everything is blacked out to give it a unique look. Starting with a base coat of Agate Black, the truck then gets a matte black wrap from top to bottom, except for the roof and mirrors, which remain glossy to create a striking contrast matching the grille. The special six-spoke wheels are matte black too.

The distinctive front light bar gets a smoked wrap, giving it a subtly striking look. This slightly dimmer bar would look fantastic on other colors as well. Up front, there’s a black Ford oval, and the Lightning badge on the tailgate is blacked out too. The “Lightning” graphic on both bed sides is in glossy black for a bit of reflective contrast, and you’ll see matching graphics on the glass roof above the rear seats—nice little details.

Each Platinum Black includes a spray-in bedliner and a black soft tonneau cover to complete the look. Kudos to anyone who actually uses the bed on this stunning limited-edition truck.

Ford is only making 2,000 of these, which is a shame because they look fantastic. The combination of unique design elements and the reassurance of a factory-applied wrap will seem like a worthy investment for Ford fans, especially those already open to splurging on an F-150 Lightning Platinum.

If you’re lucky enough to snag one of these when it becomes available in early 2024, be prepared to spend $97,995—$6,000 more than the already high-priced Platinum model. This will likely test Ford’s rumored agreement with its dealers to avoid marking up high-demand vehicles. I can’t wait to see one of these beauties out on the road.
