Tesla’s Cybertruck production has hit a snag due to a part issue with the vehicle, according to various media reports. The assembly line at Tesla’s factory near Austin, Texas, stopped for seven days so engineers could examine a problem with the accelerator pedal, as reported by CarBuzz.
At least one customer who was expecting imminent delivery received a message from Tesla informing them of an “unexpected delay.” The message stated: “Hi, we have just been informed of an unexpected delay regarding the preparation of your vehicle. We need to cancel your delivery appointment for tomorrow and we will reach out again when we’re able to get you back on the schedule.”
A current Cybertruck owner provided more insight via a TikTok video, demonstrating how the cover of the accelerator pedal had slipped forward, wedging under part of the interior. This jammed the pedal down, causing the vehicle to accelerate uncontrollably. The owner mentioned that braking could override the accelerator, but every time he released the brake, the Cybertruck would speed up again. He eventually managed to resolve the situation and is now driving the truck without the pedal cover.
Tesla hasn’t issued a recall for this apparent pedal issue yet. However, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirmed to NBC News that it is aware of the problem and is in contact with Tesla to gather more information.
Tesla has not made any public statements regarding the issue. Digital Trends has sought comments from the automaker and will update the story when they hear back.
The Cybertruck finally launched in December 2023 after several delays. Tesla aims to produce 250,000 Cybertrucks annually, but CEO Elon Musk has indicated that this target may not be reached until 2025 at the earliest.
