Tesla is facing new challenges with its Cybertruck pickup, leading to two recalls announced on Tuesday. These issues mark the third and fourth recalls since the vehicle’s launch in November. The first problem involves a large windshield wiper that is failing, and the second concerns a piece of plastic trim along the edge of the truck bed that might come loose and fly off.
Specifically, the windshield wiper recall affects 11,688 Cybertrucks, while the trim issue impacts 11,383, indicating that nearly all Cybertrucks on the road require attention. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the front windshield wiper motor controller could stop working due to electrical stress on one of its components. Tesla plans to replace the defective windshield wiper motor for free and has already begun notifying affected owners.
The windshield wiper problem has been widely discussed earlier this month, with some Cybertruck owners reporting motor failures that disabled the wiper. One owner in Florida experienced this firsthand during a heavy rainstorm, forcing him to stick his head out of the side window to see the road until he could safely stop.
Regarding the plastic trim, the NHTSA warns that if this part detaches while driving, it could become a road hazard, potentially causing injuries or collisions for other motorists. Tesla will either replace or repair the trim, ensuring it is securely attached, without any cost to the owners.
Previously, in April, Tesla recalled thousands of Cybertrucks because of a loose accelerator pedal cover that could cause the pedal to stick. Additionally, in January, the company issued a software recall for millions of vehicles, including Cybertrucks, to enhance the visibility of warning indicators on the dashboard.
