At the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show, Amazon and Hyundai announced an exciting partnership. This collaboration will bring Amazon Alexa Built-in apps to upcoming Hyundai vehicles, making Hyundai the first brand in Amazon’s new move into online car sales.
Beginning in 2025, Hyundai’s next-generation vehicles will include the same Alexa experience users are familiar with at home. Drivers will be able to ask Alexa to play music, podcasts, or audiobooks, set reminders, update to-do lists, and check their calendars. They can also control smart-home devices while on the go. The Alexa integration will provide real-time updates on traffic and weather and allow voice control for navigation systems. Some features will even work when internet access is limited.
Hyundai has also chosen Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its preferred cloud provider. This move is part of Hyundai’s strategy to become more data-driven and adopt a cloud-first technology approach. The automaker believes this will make vehicle production more efficient and allow the creation of new in-car features. To support this shift, Hyundai has launched a new training and certification program to help its engineers gain essential cloud skills.
Starting in 2024, Hyundai vehicles will be available for online purchase through Amazon, making it the first brand in Amazon’s venture into car sales. Customers will be able to shop for cars online, with the option to either pick up their vehicle from a local dealership or have it delivered. The entire transaction can be completed online, with dealership interaction limited to receiving the car keys. This system will enable customers to search for available vehicles in their area without visiting a dealership, while helping dealers showcase their inventory. Even though the options will initially be limited to Hyundai models, shoppers can filter by color, trim level, and specific features to find the perfect car.
At the 2023 L.A. Auto Show, Hyundai also showcased some new vehicles. The redesigned 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe crossover SUV made its U.S. debut, along with the Ioniq 5 N, a high-performance version of the popular Ioniq 5 EV. Both models are set to go on sale in 2024.
