The 2025 Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan: A Fresh Look and Enhanced Battery Capacity

The Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan made its debut in the 2022 model year as the flagship of Mercedes’ electric vehicle lineup. Now that it has been on the market for a few years, it’s time for an update to ensure it remains competitive with other high-end electric sedans like the BMW i7, Lucid Air, and Tesla Model S. The refreshed EQS sedan is set to hit dealerships later this year as a 2025 model.

One of the standout features of the EQS has been its unique, streamlined shape which makes it extremely aerodynamic. However, this design also means it doesn’t quite look like a traditional Mercedes. For 2025, the EQS is moving closer to a classic Mercedes appearance with a new grille that features chrome bars similar to those on the Mercedes S-Class, along with the brand’s signature hood ornament.

The updates go beyond just aesthetics. The 2025 EQS comes with a more powerful 118.0 kilowatt-hour battery pack, an upgrade from the 107.8 kWh battery in the 2024 model. While Mercedes hasn’t provided new range estimates yet, the 2024 EQS could go up to 352 miles in its single-motor rear-wheel drive EQS 450+ version.

Additionally, the 2025 EQS has enhanced regenerative braking, which Mercedes claims can capture more energy, and there are improvements to the pedal feel. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive models will retain a front axle disconnect system to boost efficiency during light driving conditions, and a heat pump has been added to reduce range loss in cold weather.

Inside, the EQS continues to offer the expansive dashboard-spanning Hyperscreen as standard. This screen setup includes central and front passenger touchscreens along with a digital instrument cluster, totaling about 56.0 inches of screen space. For rear-seat passengers, there’s added luxury with the Executive Interior Package, which includes features like reclining rear seats with adjustable seat depth, rapid heating, and neck and shoulder heaters.

The car also offers digital key functionality and over-the-air (OTA) update capabilities, which have already been used to add features like Dolby Atmos and a YouTube app to existing vehicles.

Pricing information will be announced later, but the EQS sedan will continue to be the top model in the EQ lineup, which also includes the EQS SUV, EQE sedan, and EQE SUV. These models, all built on the EQS sedan’s EVA 2 platform, will receive some similar updates in the near future.
