Honda Issues Recall for Over 300,000 Vehicles Due to Seat Belt Safety Concerns

Honda has issued a recall for over 300,000 of its 2023-2024 HR-Vs and Accords due to a safety concern. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shared that the problem involves a missing seat belt component, which could fail to properly restrain passengers in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

As of November 16, Honda hasn’t received any injury or death reports linked to this issue. Out of the 303,770 vehicles recalled, Honda believes less than 1% will actually need a part replacement.

Starting January 8, 2024, Honda will send notification letters to affected vehicle owners. When owners bring their cars to the dealership, mechanics will inspect them and, if necessary, replace the seat belt pre-tensioner assemblies free of charge.

If you own a Honda HR-V or Accord and want to check if your vehicle is part of the recall, you can visit Honda’s website and enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or call Honda at 1-888-234-2138. The recall numbers for this issue are MG7 and NG5. You can also use the NHTSA’s website to enter your VIN and see if your car is part of this or any other recalls. For additional assistance, the NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline is available at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).

This is Honda’s 15th recall of the year and follows another recent recall of nearly 250,000 vehicles due to a manufacturing error that could damage the engine. That previous recall included models such as the 2015 to 2020 Acura TLX, 2016 to 2020 MDX, 2018 and 2019 Honda Odyssey, and 2016, 2018, and 2019 Pilots, as well as Ridgelines manufactured between 2017 and 2019.
