A Sneak Peek at 5 New EVs: Luxury SUVs to Budget-Friendly Marvels

Almost every major car manufacturer has either released an electric vehicle (EV) or plans to do so soon. Companies like Ford and Kia already offer several EV options. But if you haven’t found the perfect electric car yet, don’t worry. Many new models are on the horizon, and the future of electric vehicles looks promising.

From extended ranges to reduced prices, the upcoming EVs have plenty to be excited about. Here are five eagerly anticipated EVs that are set to hit the road soon:

Volvo EX30

– Price: $34,950
– Release date: Summer 2024
– Range: 200-275 miles
– U.S. federal tax credit eligibility: No

The Volvo EX30 might not seem as thrilling as some other upcoming models, but it stands out for its affordability, making it one of the cheapest electric cars available. With the Chevrolet Bolt EV being discontinued, the EX30 will fill a significant gap in the market. Besides its attractive price, the EX30 features a sleek design and a stylish interior. It comes with Volvo’s Android Automotive-based infotainment system and offers a range of up to 275 miles, depending on the model. The higher-end versions will be Volvo’s fastest production cars, capable of reaching 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. Deliveries begin in summer 2024, with a starting price of $34,950.

Volvo EX90

– Price: $80,000 (estimated)
– Release date: Early 2024
– Range: Up to 300 miles
– U.S. federal tax credit eligibility: No

In addition to the EX30, Volvo plans to release the EX90, a three-row SUV with ample space for seven people. It will come with an electric powertrain producing 496 horsepower as standard. Unlike the EX30, the EX90 is expected to offer advanced features, including a suite of sensors that enable next-generation autonomous driving capabilities like improved lane-keeping and adaptive cruise control. There’s even the potential for Level 3 autonomy features through a 2025 software update. While the price isn’t confirmed, it’s estimated to be around $80,000.

Hyundai Ioniq 7

– Price: $50,000 (estimated)
– Release date: 2024 (expected)
– Range: 300 miles (estimated)
– U.S. federal tax credit eligibility: Unknown

Following the success of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and potentially the Ioniq 6, the Ioniq 7 is Hyundai’s next venture into electric SUVs. Although it is currently just a concept, the Ioniq 7 is expected to feature Hyundai’s e-GMP platform and boast a futuristic look with a spacious “living room on wheels” interior. While it remains to be seen how much of the concept will make it to the production model, the Ioniq 7 is likely to combine the best aspects of its predecessors with more interior space and possibly a long-lasting range and strong performance.

Lotus Eletre

– Price: $84,000+ (estimated)
– Release date: 2023
– Range: Up to 315 miles (estimated)
– U.S. federal tax credit eligibility: No

Lotus, known for its lightweight, high-performance cars, is venturing into the electric SUV market with the Lotus Eletre. Set to launch in the U.S. in 2023, the Eletre is not expected to be lightweight but aims to bring a performance-oriented experience to the electric SUV segment. Priced at around $84,000, it will come with at least 603 horsepower and an estimated range of over 315 miles. The Eletre marks a shift from Lotus’ previous more expensive, niche vehicles towards a broader market appeal.

Lucid Gravity

– Price: $120,000 (estimated)
– Release date: Early 2024 (expected)
– Range: 400 miles+ (expected)
– U.S. federal tax credit eligibility: No

Lucid Motors, known for its luxurious long-range EVs, is entering the SUV market with the Lucid Gravity. Building on the success of the Lucid Air, the Gravity will offer a similar luxurious interior in a larger format. Although it’s uncertain whether the Gravity will match or exceed the Air’s record range, it is expected to provide a substantial range thanks to the same battery and platform. When released, the Gravity is likely to be one of the top luxury electric SUVs available.
