The Ford Mustang Mach-E is a top-notch electric vehicle for the price, offering a solid range, sleek design, and impressive interior technology. Thanks to a price war with the Tesla Model 3, it’s become even more affordable in recent years. The company recently unveiled the latest version of the Mach-E, the 2024 model.
The 2024 Mustang Mach-E introduces some notable changes compared to the 2023 version. We decided to compare both models to determine whether it’s worth paying for the 2024 update or saving money by opting for any remaining 2023 stock.
The Mustang Mach-E boasts a unique and appealing design. Ford has largely retained the overall look for the 2024 model, especially in consumer-focused versions. The car still features slatted taillights, a crossover size, and a variety of colors like Grabber Blue Metallic and Rapid Red Metallic. There are plenty of options to suit most buyers.
The biggest design changes come with the new Mach-E Rally model, which includes a racing stripe along the hood and a large spoiler at the back. This sporty look might not be for everyone, but it adds some variety.
The interior remains mostly the same, which is a positive aspect. The car continues to feature premium upholstery and a large, vertically aligned display for infotainment, along with a unique large volume knob built into the screen.
Thanks to its crossover size, the Mach-E offers ample storage space, with 29.7 cubic feet of room behind the second row of seats — quite generous for its class.
On the tech front, the Mach-E is impressive. It features a large touchscreen up front running Ford’s Sync infotainment system, which now includes machine learning to customize up to three driver profiles. It also supports CarPlay and Android Auto, and includes Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free driving technology.
Performance-wise, the 2024 model offers slight improvements over the 2023 model. While the changes aren’t drastic, the 2024 version is a bit faster. The new model is available in several powertrains, including a single-motor rear-wheel-drive variant and an all-wheel-drive dual-motor variant. The top trims, like the Mach-E GT and Rally, are only available as dual-motor variants. The Mach-E GT with the “Performance Upgrade” package can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, slightly faster than the Tesla Model Y Performance. The 2023 model also offers single- or dual-motor variants, with the fastest being the Mach-E GT Performance that hits 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds — still quite fast, and the performance difference between the two years is minor.
The 2024 model also improves on range and charging capabilities compared to the 2023 version. The 2023 Mach-E offered a range of 230 miles for the standard-range RWD model and up to 300 miles for the extended-range RWD model. The 2024 model increases this range to between 250 and 320 miles. This improvement is largely due to the new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, introduced to some 2023 models mid-year.
These LFP batteries enable faster charging. Ford claims the 2024 model can charge up to 20% faster than the 2023 version. Some models can charge from 10% to 80% in just 36.2 minutes — 8.8 minutes quicker than before. While it might not charge as fast as competitors like the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, these strides are significant.
The 2024 Mustang Mach-E starts at $39,995 for the base Mach-E Select model, making it one of the best-value electric vehicles available today. Pricing is lower than the original 2023 launch price of $41,695, and Ford has been introducing discounts throughout the year.
If you order a new Mach-E from Ford now, you’ll get the 2024 model. However, the 2023 model may still be available at some dealerships, and used options might be found as well.
The 2024 Mustang Mach-E doesn’t completely transform the electric Mustang, but it does bring meaningful improvements, especially in range and charging. If you find a great deal on a 2023 model, it’s worth considering. However, if you’re buying new, the 2024 model is the better option.
