Lucid Motors has recently announced that it will be using the North American Charging Standard (NACS), also known as the Tesla plug, for its electric vehicles. This decision mirrors the choices of over a dozen other automakers, including General Motors, Ford, Toyota, BMW, Jaguar Land Rover, Volvo, and Honda, that have also decided to use Tesla’s charging connector.
Lucid Motors shared on social media that starting in 2025, its customers will have access to more than 15,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America. The company emphasized that adopting NACS will significantly expand the availability of reliable and convenient charging options for Lucid owners.
Vehicles currently using the Combined Charging System (CCS) will be able to connect to the Tesla Supercharger network via an adapter beginning in 2025, according to a confirmation on the American automaker’s website. Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson noted that adopting the NACS plug is crucial for providing more accessible charging solutions for Lucid vehicles. He believes that having a unified charging standard, along with the rollout of new high-voltage charging stations across the country, is essential for encouraging more consumers in America to switch to electric vehicles.
Interestingly, Rawlinson, who once worked as the chief engineer at Tesla and contributed to the design of Tesla’s charging plug, hinted as early as July that Lucid would eventually adopt the NACS design. With many automakers now committing to the NACS plug, it was anticipated that Lucid, known for its luxury electric vehicles, would follow suit.
