Tesla's Cybertruck Demonstrates New Basecamp Tent Feature in Latest Video

After a long wait, Tesla finally started delivering the Cybertruck pickup to its first customers at the end of November. Since then, the company led by Elon Musk has released several videos showcasing the unique, futuristic design of the Cybertruck to encourage more orders.

The latest video highlights the Cybertruck’s Basecamp tent attachment. For $2,975, you get a tent designed to match the truck’s angular look. The video starts with a Cybertruck driving through a landscape that resembles parts of Iceland. Once they find a remote spot, a family gets out and sets up the Basecamp tent. While the video makes it look easy, only actual use will tell if it’s as simple as it seems. According to Tesla, the tent can be inflated in minutes without needing any structural poles.

After setting up, the family enjoys a picnic by the water and does some fishing. They then climb into the back of the truck, where the tent provides shelter for the night. Note that it looks like it can comfortably fit two adults and one small child at most.

The next morning, the family drives to a condo for a more comfy stay, with the mother and daughter later doing some stargazing from the tent’s comfort. They were lucky with the weather, but if it had turned bad, they could have used a weather-resistant outer shell with an extendable awning for extra protection.

The Cybertruck is Tesla’s first pickup and starts at $60,990, which is about $20,000 more than early estimates by Musk. Before deliveries began in November, reports indicated that preorders had reached 1.9 million. Initially, preorders could be made with a $100 refundable deposit, but this amount recently increased to $250.

With more electric pickups entering the market and the electric vehicle (EV) sector becoming more competitive, Tesla needs the Cybertruck to be a hit. However, since full-scale production isn’t expected until 2025, it will take some time to gauge its true popularity.
