Mercedes-Benz is gradually rolling out electric versions of all its vehicles, and it seems like a smaller electric G-Wagon might be on the horizon. The company first introduced plans for an all-electric EQG in 2021, and now they’re considering a smaller version, casually referred to as the “Little G.”
There’s still a lot that remains unknown about this smaller electric G-Wagon, but here’s what we know so far.
The design is a critical element in what makes a G-Wagon stand out. Because of this, Mercedes is unlikely to compromise on this aspect. CEO Ola Kallenius mentioned that the car would be designed “from scratch,” capturing the essence of the G-Wagon in a more compact form.
This smaller electric G-Wagon is expected to retain the iconic boxy shape of its predecessors but in a more diminutive, hopefully more agile, version. While we’ll have to wait to see just how much smaller it will be, early teasers suggest it will still feature the classic boot-mounted spare wheel.
Although Mercedes-Benz has shared numerous images of the exterior concept of the larger G-Wagon, they have yet to show any interior images. However, we can expect the company to continue the rugged exterior theme inside as well. The interior will likely feature elements found in other modern electric Mercedes models, including a larger infotainment display that supports both CarPlay and Android Auto.
As for the performance of the smaller electric G-Wagon, much is still up in the air. However, it’s almost certain that it will come with all-wheel drive, though whether this will be through a dual or quad-motor setup remains to be seen. If it shares characteristics with the larger electric G-Wagon, we might see a body-on-frame build with an independent front suspension and a combined output of at least around 400 horsepower.
Range is a significant unknown factor at this point. Given that the car isn’t expected until at least 2026, we hope it will offer at least 300 miles on a single charge. Only time will tell.
Pricing remains a mystery as well. Although this model is being touted as a smaller and likely cheaper version of the full-size electric G-Wagon, Mercedes has not disclosed any details about the cost.
As for the release date, that’s still up in the air too. The full-size electric G-Wagon is anticipated to launch as a 2025 model, making it unlikely that the smaller version will debut before 2026 or 2027.
