Tesla has finally announced the delivery date for the highly-anticipated Cybertruck: November 30. The announcement came from a post on X by Elon Musk’s company. The delivery event is set to take place at Tesla’s Cybertruck Gigafactory in Austin, Texas.
Earlier this year, Musk had promised that the delivery event would occur in the third quarter, but that timeline came and went without any updates. Based on previous Tesla launches, the event at the end of November is likely to be quite festive, with a lively atmosphere. Musk is expected to hand over the first Cybertrucks to the initial customers, and who knows, he might even show off some dance moves.
The new Cybertruck owners definitely deserve some recognition for their patience, as they were probably among the first to pre-order the futuristic, all-electric pickup truck when it was revealed four years ago. As of this summer, there have been almost 2 million orders for the Cybertruck, each with a $100 refundable deposit. However, it will still take some time to fulfill all these orders. During a recent earnings call, Musk mentioned that reaching full production capacity soon will be challenging. While Tesla aims to produce around 250,000 Cybertrucks a year, it’s unlikely to achieve that target until after 2024.
The development of the Cybertruck has experienced several delays, causing it to miss the original 2021 launch date. These delays have given rival automakers like Ford and Rivian the chance to release their own electric pickups. Despite these setbacks, Tesla is banking on the Cybertruck’s distinctive design to capture the market. A few years ago, Musk acknowledged that there’s a chance the Cybertruck could fail. More recently, though, he’s expressed a more optimistic outlook, declaring in August that he believes the Cybertruck is “our best product ever.”
